Daily Tetris – a metaphor for how the human brain functions and manages tasks and time.
At the start of the day, when our “game board” (our mind and daily schedule) is clear and unburdened, it’s easier to take on new tasks and challenges. At this point, there’s little time pressure, and thinking is clear and focused. Just like in Tetris, where it’s easier to place blocks on an empty board, in daily life it’s easier to start and complete tasks when our mind is “fresh” and undisturbed.
However, as the day progresses and new tasks or information arrive, our ability to manage time and priorities effectively can be put to the test. Just like in Tetris, where new blocks appear at an increasing speed, in daily life we face more challenges and unexpected tasks. If we don’t handle them promptly, the “board” fills up, making it harder to add new elements without creating chaos.
The key to success in “daily Tetris” is therefore not only effective management of current tasks but also the ability to anticipate and plan ahead. Procrastinating tasks, much like avoiding making decisions in Tetris, usually leads to a “lost round”—a situation where we lose control over our responsibilities and time.
Managing our “daily Tetris” also requires the ability to recognize moments when it’s worth taking a short break to clear the mind and view our tasks from a fresh perspective. Often, a brief pause can help “clear the board” and better manage the tasks ahead.
In summary, daily Tetris highlights the importance of effective time management, prioritization, and adaptability in everyday life. The key to success lies not only in efficiently handling current tasks but also in having a flexible mindset that allows us to adjust to changing conditions and unexpected challenges.
